According to the Daily Mail, Gonzalo Higuaín is all set to ply his
trade at Arsenal next season, with a fee of €25 million and a wage
package worth €7.2 million a season seemingly enough to seal the deal.
Higuaín has made plain his desire to leave Madrid this summer and has also been a target for Juventus. Indeed, a move to Turin had appeared to be all but done and dusted, only for the deal to stall.
This opened a window for Arsenal, who appears to have gazumped the Italian champions. A meeting was held between Higuaín's father, Jorge, and Gunners boss Arsène Wenger, a few days ago, and it is believed that the salary hike on offer and Wenger's pledges as to the striker's importance in his plans have ultimately tipped the scales in the London club's favour.
Despite being sidelined for two months, Higuaín managed an impressive 16 'La Liga' goals for 'Los Balncos' this past season, and Arsène Wenger is eager to add a proven goalscorer to his ranks. While other big names have also been linked with Arsenal, including Wayne Rooney, 'Pipita' looks odds-on to be running out at the Emirates next season - that is, unless Real Madrid's coach-to-be, Carlo Ancelotti, blocks his departure.
