Champions League - Bayern face Barcelona, Real Madrid take on Dortmund in semis

By on 20:18

Barcelona will take on Bayern Munich while Real Madrid face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-finals.

Barcelona will play the first leg at the Allianz Arena against last year's runners-up Bayern in what will be a meeting between Pep Guardiola’s past and future clubs, while Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid also travel to Germany before the return legs in Spain.

The draw sets up the possibility of either an all-Spanish or all-German final at Wembley Stadium on May 25.
Barca, who defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals on away goals, will come up against newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern for the fourth time in European competition and the third in the Champions League.
Madrid, who eliminated Galatasaray this week, face a reunion with Group D opponents Dortmund, in what will be the two sides’ fourth pairing overall in the Champions League. Although Real go in as favourites, they only took a single point from their group stage meetings with Dortmund this season.
The first legs will be played on April 23 and 24, with the second legs to take place on April 30 and May 1. The team drawn first plays the first leg at home.

REACTION
Bayern Munich v Barcelona
"I know what is coming our way now but I find the contrast (between the teams) very appealing," said Bayern Munich chief executive officer Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "It will be two hugely interesting games. It is the team that has been the most successful in past years. Now our team has to show if it can be on par with Barcelona. It is a chance to show that Bayern has improved since 2009 (when the teams last met) and we can test ourselves against the best team. There are no clear favourites in any of the games."
"It's a tie between two great teams. They are two sides with different styles," said Andoni Zubizarreta, a former Barcelona and Spain goalkeeper now the club's sporting director. "We will try to do what we enjoy doing and what we know how to do. We will be delighted to get to a place as magical as Wembley (the venue for the final)."
Borussia Dortmund v Real Madrid
"Real won't be fearing us, but they will respect us," said Borussia Dortmund's chief executive officer Hans-Joachim Watzke. "We are looking forward to it. Our main mission is to make our fans happy."
"We have already played them twice this season and we were unable to beat them," said Emilio Butragueno, a former Real Madrid player and current club director. "But we hope this time it will be different and we can get through to the final."
