Iniesta: "To stay competitive we need to improve"

By on 15:49

Andrés Iniesta was chosen as Barcelona's representative to face the press after the drubbing in Munich and was in reflexive mood as he pondered what the club needs to do going forward.

Athletic Club: After the Champions league match we need to change our mentality to win in Bilbao and bring the League title a step closer. They have a lot to play for and it will be tough. We don't have any other option than to pick ourselves up and look ahead with optimism.
Comeback: We need to believe we can do it and seek the chance to make it happen. Scoring four goals is very difficult, but if we have even a small chance of doing it we need to be ready for that chance and take advantage of it. I don't want to suggest we are going to score five, not at all, but I can see we might have a remote chance of getting through. When everything seems lost the unexpected can happen".
What happened in Munich? They were better than us in every way. Not because of our attitude. They are having a cracking spell at the moment and that needs to be recognised. It hurts, but just as people did with us, we need to accept it.
End of an era? It's not fair to talk about the end of an era. In the last five years this team has won two Champions, four leagues... a blessed era. That is a lot of years of winning and fighting for everything. If we analyse those five years based on the Munich game, that's not good. We've done enough for people to respect this club through and through. Next year we will be back fighting for titles, but things need to be improved and the club should improve in order to reach the semi-finals and then the final. I'm talking about everyone, those already here and those who are going to come in. With how things are it's possible we don't make it next year either. Every day football gets tougher and more so for those at the top. It's not up to me to say whether we should make signings or not, there are people to make those decisions, I'd only say that the squad needs to improve to maintain such a high standard. Everybody is free to offer their opinion about how they feel. It's not my place to talk about rivals who want Barcelona to lose. I'm happy with what we've enjoyed and with what we still have to enjoy.
Revolution: When things turn out badly or go wrong one should count to 10, thinking and reflecting. If we want to continue being competitive we need to improve.
Madrid's disaster: I only saw a bit of the Madrid game. Both Bayern and Dortmund are teams who are good across the board. Those games support that theory. It's not that we're worse than they are, or La Liga is worse than the Bundesliga, but it's true that at this particular moment they beat us handsomely.
League title: Let's see what happens on Saturday. It's not in our hands. Independently of whether we are celebrating this weekend or not, the League this year has been one of the toughest of recent years. When you win the league it's never a bad year. We're mistaken if we think that because we might not win the Champions it's been a bad year.
Physical situation: I don't feel as if the team is worn out. We're in the best possible hands. In this case we met a better team and they beat us across the board. It was a very bad result. We need to accept that.
San Mamés: Athletic will help us prepare for the Bayern match. It'll be tough. They have a lot to play for and we are hoping to pick up three points. It's emotional for them, but for me I don't care whether it's in Bilbao or in the Calderón.
Tito: It was tough being without our coach for various weeks. Luckily he's back here and the main thing is he's with us.
Guardiola: He'll make Bayern better.
Contract renewal: Things have been talked about. It would be good to finish my career here. It will depend on my performances with the club.
