Ronaldo beats Messi in performance ranking

By on 15:53

Real Madrid striker and Portuguese international, Cristiano Ronaldo, has snatched the top spot in the best performing player in Europe ranking, knocking the prolific Argentine player, Leo Messi off his throne.
It is the first time since 2009 that Cristiano Ronaldo has beaten Messi in the Castrol EDGE ranking.
In April, CR7 scored seven goals in the seven matches he played in the Champions League and La Liga and also managed an assist in each of the three domestic matches.
The Portuguese striker averages a goal per game in the last twelve months (46 goals in 46 games) and 5.2 shots on goal per game.
Despite losing the lead, Messi is still top scorer of the five major leagues in 2013, having scored eighteen goals in thirteen league games. The Argentine also ranks top in assists (seven).
Third place in the ranking goes to German player, Thomas Müller (Bayern Munich), who, in the last twelve months, has been directly involved in 34 goals in 38 matches played between the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
Another outstanding player is Poland's Robert Lewandowski. The Borussia Dortmund striker played a crucial role in helping his team to the final of the Champions League after the four goals he scored against Real Madrid in the first leg. Lewandowski has moved up 22 positions in the last two months and now ranks fifth.
As well as a superb performance in the semi-finals, since March, the Polish striker has scored fourteen goals in thirteen matches in the Champions League and Bundesliga. Stats that have helped him climb to that fifth place.
Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos is close on the heels of the 'top 10' (eleventh place), making him the first defender in the ranking.
