"Of course I'll be here next season", Xabi Alonso said at the end of
an interview at the Bernabéu after Real Madrid's trouncing of Málaga.
The Basque central midfielder still has one year to go on his contract,
but his future seems unclear as he has not signed an extension to his
current deal. However, Alonso's comments point towards him staying on at
the club, at least for the coming campaign.
Alonso gave his view on the Iker Casillas situation: "It's Iker's turn to sit on the bench at the moment. That's football. It's a team sport. Diego López has been in fine form and Casillas is behind him. It's not worth stirring up more controversy. We have to give our all and get the fans' support".
When asked about Real's forthcoming clash against Atlético de Madrid, Alonso said: "Our objective now is to get to the Copa del Rey final in the right condition and try to win the only title that is left to play for. We are totally focussed and want to lift the trophy".
