Messi's contract won't be upped this year

By on 23:22

Barcelona's vice-president of finance, Javier Faus, doesn't believe that the club is about to renew Leo Messi's contract, since it was extended and improved last year.
In declarations to 'RAC1', Faus discussed the circumstances. "I don't know why we would need to do it again. We don't need to offer an improved contract every six months", said the vice-president, although he also explained that in any case this would count as a sporting decision and thus be a decision taken by Andoni Zubizarreta.
The director assured that there's "zero possibility" that Barça would sell the player under any circumstances, particularly whilst Sandro Rosell remained in charge of the club – his term expires in 2016. He also explained that he hoped the issue of Gerard Piqué's contract would be resolved soon, and said that he believes Sergio Busquets is happy with his new contract. "He renewed his contract recently. He's the future", said Faus.
Faus used the word "extemporaneous" to classify accusations being made against Rosell in relation to Neymar's transfer, and he also pointed out that Barça has "many confidentiality policies" in place. When asked about the future, and if he would ever consider being a candidate for club president, Faus pointed out that Sandro Rosell is doing "a very good job" and said that he hopes that the president will run for re-election in 2016.
