Xavi: "There's a negativity surrounding us that doesn't help"

By on 18:49

Xavi believes that the waves of criticism being received as of late is rocking the Barça boat: "We think about what we're doing, but there is a negativity surrounding us that doesn't help. Right now we´re surrounded by negativity and we are the ones that have to get rid of it".
In an interview with Catalunya Radio, Xavi said that the Barça mind-set has to change: "In reality, the only moment when the team gave the impression that it didn't have control was in the first half against Ajax, and occasionally against Athletic de Bilbao. I only stopped enjoying myself in the first half of the game in Amsterdam. We had agreed that the Culé dynamic had changed, hadn't we? But it seems that sometimes we still see the glass as half full".
Xavi admitted that Barça "is not at its best moment", and that some things need to be improved: "Now we lose possession, for example, and that has to be corrected". The Spaniard also had words of praised for Tata Martino: "He is a leader, very thorough, really into football, and knows what he wants. He's not come to change anything, but to get the good vibes back".
Xavi felt that his team's playing style had not changed: "Sergi, Roberto or Cesc can play and the style remains unchanged. It wouldn't be good for any player to change our style of play, simply because we are not made to run 30 or 40 sprints a match, but to control the game". "What has changed is the dynamics of Spanish football. Now everyone wants to play like Barça does – Rayo, Betis, Celta...", he assured.
