Kroos earns himself a rest

By on 18:19

Toni Kroos will rest after this weekend's game at La Rosaleda.

The German will not feature next Tuesday against Cornellà and will finally have a game-free week, something he has rarely enjoyed over the past year. The German told his fellow countrymen after the game against Basel that he was starting to feel a bit tired, which is completely understandable if we look back over the last 15 months.

Since the beginning of last season, at Bayern, Kroos has only had one month off in January and 15 days over the summer. In other words, he's been at full steam for 13 months and notched up an astounding 88 matches, in which he nearly always played the full 90 minutes.

Kroos has shown he is a powerhouse of physical fitness, barely showing any signs of fatigue out on the pitch and not getting injured, but he fears not being in top form for the business part of the season.

The Real Madrid midfielder will not be called up to the squad for next week's Spanish Cup game and will not feature against Ludogorets in Real Madrid's final Champions League group game.

Carlo Ancelotti, Fernando Hierro and the rest of the club's first-team coaching staff are huge fans of Kroos, who is playing much better than expected. They knew they were signing a world-class player, but there were doubts about how well he would adapt to both the team and his new surroundings.
