The Argentinean will battle it out with Benzema in the new season
The countdown begins for the team's return to training, on 15th July, and 'Pipita' is already warming up to face his duel for starter status with Benzema. The swords will again be at the ready between Mourinho’s two number 'nines'.
Higuaín has the initial advantage. He will be among the first group awaiting Mou's orders with almost 15 days on Benzema who will arrive on 26th July. Last year it was the other way around and the Argentinean felt the consequences all season. When he returned after the Copa América, Benzema was already firing on all cylinders.
Now it is Higuaín who will get his head down first and will arrive in prime condition, having completely recovered from his back operation at the beginning of 2011.
Higuaín wants to wipe the slate clean and move on. And he is going to do it with the peace of mind that he secured his future some time ago and has assured the club and Mourinho's confidence in him. The Argentine player left the team in May with doubts about his future but, the response from Real Madrid was swift and resounding: "He's untouchable".
