2014 WORLD CUP | SPAIN Xavi gets the all-clear in Madrid

By on 11:36

Xavi Hernández passed a medical revision late on Tuesday evening at the CEMTRO Clinic in Madrid and national team doctors Óscar Celada and Juan Cota have both agreed that the player can continue under Vicente Del Bosque's orders for Spain's upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifying matches. Xavi will train apart from the main group during the next few days while national team physios monitor his progress.
The midfielder has been suffering a hamstring complaint and has been experiencing problems with his Achilles. He underwent a magnetic scan on Tuesday which showed no abnormalities and Xavi has stated that he is keen to stay with the stay on with the Spain squad against the wishes of Barça's club medical staff.
The midfielder is almost certain to be left out of the side for Friday's meeting with Finland in Gijón but could be handed minutes against France the following Tuesday.
Injury has kept Iker Casillas and Carles Puyol out of Del Bosque's plans and with Fernando Torres discarded this time, Xavi and Xabi Alonso are the only available players who have completed a century of caps or more and the coach will be grateful for their experience as the defending champions aim to clinch top spot in the qualifying section.
