Former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund coach Ottmar Hitzfeld
believes that European football is facing the end of an era and that
Germany is ready to break Spain’s dominance of the game.
"The power is shifting in European football, although right now Bayern and Borussia Dortmund have to finish the job that they started in their first-leg games against Barcelona and Real Madrid", said Hirzfeld in an online interview given to 'Bundesliga.de'.
Hirzfeld, who won the Champions League with Dortmund in 1997 and with Bayern in 2001, is convinced that there will be an all-German final, although he warned that Dortmund must not underestimate Real Madrid’s chances of coming back from its 4-1 defeat in the first leg.
"I know how tough it is to play at the Santiago Bernabéu. An early Real Madrid goal and the stadium comes to life, believing that a miracle is possible. I’m convinced that Dortmund will reach the final along with Bayern, but it isn’t going to be easy", said Hitzfeld.
Regarding Bayern, Hitzfeld has no doubt and he already sees his former team at Wembley. "4-0 is like a life insurance policy. Under no circumstances can I see Barcelona scoring four goals against Bayern again, like it did in 2009. This is a very different, much more dominant Bayern", said Hitzfeld.
