Mourinho on defeat: "We had no answer to Dortmund"

In the wake of his side's 4-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid coach José Mourinho acknowledged that 'Los Blancos' had succumbed to the better side.

After his side's 4-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid coach José Mourinho acknowledged that his charges had lost to the better side. However, the Portuguese coach sounded a note of hope: "We can turn the tie around. Nothing is impossible."

Assessment of the match: "The best team won, both individually and collectively. They were physically and mentally more aggressive. They won all the individual battles; they played with a lot of intensity. We lost possession easily and couldn't cope with their transitions and speed on the break. We had no answer to them."
Dortmund goals: "They all came as a result of mistakes. We made other mistakes, too; but Diego López stopped them from scoring more."
Was there a lack of collective cohesion in Madrid's play? "It's difficult for me to analyse that in the way you would like me to. I couldn't give an analysis of that; it's an analysis I'll be giving to my players later. I think that it's obvious and basic sporting etiquette to acknowledge that the best team won. I don't know if the penalty was a penalty or if the second goal was offside. It's difficult for me to give an in-depth analysis."
Refereeing decisions: "I can't say if the second goal was offside or if the penalty given against Xabi Alonso was or wasn't, but the better team won."
Sergio Ramos' candid post-match interview: "He's a great guy, he's a very emotional guy and he's very disappointed. When you give an interview a minute after the final whistle, it's difficult to come to terms with everything. It's hard on the team to talk about attitude, because everyone wanted to do better."
Madrid's comeback chances: "We can turn it around; nothing is impossible. There's hope. Right now everyone will say we can't and in a day's time they'll say we can. And before the game the players will be ready to give everything. You can't exit a competition without giving everything that you've got on the pitch. If Borussia are to knock us out, we have to go down fighting."
