Real's quest for goal-fest glory

Mou plans Modric-Xabi 'play-making' midfield pairing to face Borussia
Real Madrid needs goals to pull off its miracle comeback against Borussia Dortmund. The German side's convincing win has led to a radical strategical rethink. Mourinho knows that he must boost Madrid's attacking line-up in its search for more goal opportunities.
Risks have to be taken and the most feasible option is to give a more offensive edge to the midfield. Modric is looking like a strong candidate to be paired up with Xabi Alonso against Dortmund, even more so after having Khedira having played alongside Pepe in midfield for 90 minutes in the Atlético Madrid derby. Xabi was rested, as was Modric; both only going on for the closing minutes, thereby possibly giving an indication of Mourinho's plans for the European tie.
The only time Modric and Xabi have previously both featured in a Champions League starting eleven was, in fact, also against Borussia at the Bernabéu in the group stages (with a 2-2 result). In the first leg of the semi-finals the Croat had starter status, but played as an attacking midfielder. Madrid needs to play football if it is to mount a comeback, and the Modric option may be the best in its quest for goal-fest glory.
