This Sunday, UEFA appointed English referee, Howard Webb, to oversee
the second leg of the Champions League semifinals between Real Madrid
and Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
Webb has already refereed for Borussia Dortmund this season in the first leg of the Round of 16 the German squad played against Shakhtar Donetsk on 13th February, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
The English referee and former policeman refereed the 2010 World Cup final in South Africa between Spain and the Netherlands. On that occasion he missed a brutal foul on Xabi Alonso by Dutchman De Jong. Later he admitted, "I should have sent him off".
Moreover, Webb took charge of the Real Madrid – Bayern Munich game in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals last season, a match the Bavarian team won 2-1. This will be the fourth time that Howard Webb oversees José Mourinho’s squad.
Webb was relegated to League One by the FA recently for his mistakes in Sunderland's 3-0 victory over Newcastle. On 20th April he took charge of the League One clash between Colchester and Shrewsbury.
