The former Brazil striker chose Lionel Messi as the world's top performer, admitting his sympathy for Cristiano: "He would have been the best in many other eras."

Former Brazil striker Ronaldo is currently on tour promoting the 2013 Confederations Cup, which takes place in his home country next June. And speaking in Turin before moving on to Madrid and London, he discussed Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and José Mourinho.
Asked to compare La Liga stars Messi and Cristiano, the former Barcelona and Real Madrid man chose the Argentina international as the game's leading light. In comments published by 'Tuttosport', Ronaldo said: "I would say Messi [is the world's best player] because he is a little bit better than Cristiano. But I would also add that Cristiano has had unbelievably bad luck. He would have been the best player in the world in many other eras, but he has coincided with another of the game's greats."
Discussing the possible stars at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Ronaldo could not see past the Madrid and Barça duo: "I think that Cristiano and Messi are ahead of the rest."
He also spoke about countryman Neymar, appearing to let slip the young Santos star's next destination as he expressed his confidence in the player's ability to challenge Messi and Cristiano as football's top performer: "I think he has the potential to do so. We have to assess his impact on European football when he arrives at Barcelona. The first year will be difficult for him, but I'm convinced that when he adapts he'll be one of the very best."
As for Mourinho - who Ronaldo worked with during his spell at the Camp Nou - he said: "He's a great coach. He has exceptional ideas in his head and he knows how to transmit them and make players understand them."
