"Why would I call Pep? I know Barça as well as I know Bayern"

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE | BAYERN-BARÇA | HEYNCKES

"Barça are not just Messi, they also have Iniesta and many other great players. They are collective side. But we have a clear idea of how we are going to play against them."

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has dismissed the suggestion that Barcelona are over-reliant on Leo Messi, and believes the Catalans are "a great collective side".
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of his side's semi-final clash with Barcelona on Tuesday, the coach said:
"As far as I know Messi has been training normally and will start the game. I know that he has had some muscular problems, but I don't know if it's any more serious than that. I presume he didn't play on the weekend [against Levante] as a security measure. But Barça are not just Messi, they also have Iniesta and many other great players. They are collective side. But we have a clear idea of how we are going to play against them."
Barça reaching six consecutive semi-finals: "They have dominated world football and they have a clear philosophy of how they want to play. Many of their players were formed in their academy and they have a great understanding with each other, that's their main characteristic."
Injury news: "Basttuber and Kross are still out, but everyone else is available. Some players have been in a bit of pain, but there are no problems."
Guardiola: "The first thing I want to say is that I admire Guardiola as a player and a coach and we have a very good relationship. But when the German press said that I had to call Pep to ask him about Barcelona I thought that showed a lack of respect to me and even to Pep. I know Barcelona as well as I know Bayern."
Thoughts on retiring: "Given how well we have played this season I will be able to leave here with my head held high, whether or not we win the Champions League."
Significance of Bayern's physical presence: "Being fit and strong is one thing but we bring together physical prowess with quality football. We are not just a physical side. We work together as a team, we play the most modern football of all time."
What will you say in your team talk? "You can plan many things, you can talk about many different aspects of the opponents, but the most important thing is spontaneity. You need to make sure you aren't distracted by the atmosphere. I will make a spontaneous team talk."
Will you play Pizarro or Gómez? "It's a great thing to have two players of such class in my team. One of them is the top foreign scorer in the Bundesliga, the other [Gómez] has been the best German player and last year he scored 12 goals. I'm lucky to have both, I'll speak to them and then make the decision."
How has football changed since you won the European Cup with Madrid in 1998? "The nuances have changed. The players have less time on the ball and less space to think, and you have to work more on tactics and technique than before. The team is more important than the individual but there are always players that make the difference. Barça have Messi, for example, but their collective play is what makes them so good."
The significance of the absence of Puyol: "Abidal played the whole game last weekend, I'm delighted for him He's an extraordinary sportsman and person. He or Bartra could play, but that won't influence our plan. We are very clear about how we're going to play against Barça."
