Puyol, the one-club man

By on 15:50

Despite rumours in the media that the Azulgrana defender wanted to leave the Catalan club and even that he was negotiating with AC Milan, Carles Puyol has no intention of leaving Barça at the end of the season.
The last time he appeared before the press was on February 19th, coinciding with the last 16 Champions League encounter at San Siro. Now he's broken his silence, via Twitter, to dismiss all the speculation as false, and confirm he has no intention of leaving.
Puyol extended his contract with Barcelona last January until June 2016. However, he was less than pleased when he was left on the bench for the second leg against Milan and began to feel he was losing ground in the team. Without informing the club, he decided to have arthroscopic surgery to put an end to his knee complaint.
In fact, it was precisely this substitution in the second leg of the Champions and his decision to undergo surgery amidst a shroud of secrecy that set the alarm bells ringing about him being unhappy and wanting to leave the club. In spite of the fact that he had always said he wanted to retire in the club at 40.
