German national player Sami Khedira suffered a knee injury in
Friday’s game against Italy at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan. The
26-year old Khedira ruptured the cruciate ligament in his right knee. He
will undergo surgery before beginning a six-month rehabilitation
programme.
"Sami will have to be treated surgically. He will need to be operated on but we are hopeful he could be fit in time for the World Cup", Germany team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfarth said.
Joachim Löw added: "That’s a bitter setback for Sami and for all of us."
