Despite
being overlooked for the Ballon d'Or, Lionel Messi can still
lay claim to being the most valuable player on the transfer market. The
Argentine has been given this distinction for the sixth year running, while
Cristiano Ronaldo is second and 10th-placed Juan Mata is the highest-ranked
Spaniard.
A study
carried out by Brazilian consultancy firm Pluri Consultoria puts the Barça
forward's value at €138 million, streets ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is
rated at €107m.
Next in
line, coming in under the one hundred million mark, are Welshman Gareth Bale
(€71m) and Brazilian Neymar (€67m). German starlet Götze, Uruguayan striker
Cavani and Colombian marksman Falcao follow the Real Madrid and Barcelona stars
in the table.
Though he
finds himself on the fringes under José Mourinho at Chelsea this season, Juan
Mata's stock remains sky-high. This explains why the Spaniard is valued at €47m
and placed 10th, ahead of big names like Andrés Iniesta, Sergio Agüero, David
Silva, Wayne Rooney and Franck Ribéry.
