Speaking to radio station Cadena COPE, he said: “If it [changing the date] is proposed to us, we’ll analyse it and if there are no other problems it can be changed. Friday is a good night too. We’re holding finals on Saturday and some on Friday because people don’t have to rush back to their place of origin.”
Pérez confirmed that the kick-off time of the match has “not yet” been fixed, but that it will be around “21:30 to 22:00”. On the distribution of the tickets for the showpiece occasion, he said: “According to the rules, it’s a third for each party." However, he admitted that the heavy demand both clubs will experience meant that they would also be allotted tickets from the RFEF’s allocation, leading to “about 20,000 for each finalist”.
The RFEF secretary general was also asked why the venue is not decided upon before the start of the season. “We have the peculiarities that we have,” he replied. “It’s difficult because in Spain there are five or six stadiums which hold more than 50,000 spectators and clash with the teams that regularly reach the final.”
He continued: “If we ‘force’ a team to play in their stadium, it’ll then be very difficult to organise the game in a stadium that doesn’t want to take us in with that club’s staff. It isn’t as easy as it seems.” Pérez added that the 2002 Copa del Rey final, which was awarded to the Santiago Bernabéu in advance as part of Real Madrid’s centenary celebrations, led Deportivo La Coruña fans to “complain”.
