The jersey features the La Roja crest and star representing the World Champions in neon green, along with the Adidas logo.
Adidas has presented the strip with the slogan “Show your colours or fade away,” and also tweeted: “Neon lighting up the Spanish night. The Champions must shine again. Show your colours or fade away.”
“The black and neon gear has been inspired by meaningful features of the cheerful, alive, bustling, social and colourful Spanish culture,” Adidas also wrote. The strip is due to go on sale on 4 March in official Adidas stores and authorised digital platforms.
The kit will be worn for the first time in the friendly against Italy on 5 March in the Vicente Calderón for the AFE (Spanish Footballers’ Federation), according to a communiqué released by Adidas on Thursday. Presumably during the group stages of the World Cup Spain will not need to wear the new jersey given that they will play Holland (orange), and Chile (red, white and blue) as the home side and Australia (yellow and green) as the away side.
In recent years Spain have not worn such a dark colour, with the most similar strip being the one worn during the successful World Cup in South Africa, which was dark blue.
