Atlético is
putting together some historic figures this season thanks to consistent
performances out on the pitch. Nothing and nobody can distract the team. Not
even overcoming Real Madrid earlier in the season made the team lose focus.
Simeone's
squad couldn't have been better in the run-up to the Bernabéu game - chalking
up each game as a victory - and although it did slip-up a couple of league
games later, the players bounced back quickly and continued applying their
winning philosophy game after game
victory
after victory.
Atlético
looked solid at the back in the league derby, keeping a clean sheet, and has
only gone on to confirm that since. In fact, Courtois has only conceded 14
league goals since then – less than one a game.
Simeone's
firing-squad is unforgiving of mistakes. The team's executioner-in-chief is
Costa, who has been in ballistic form for most of the season. He fired home in
the Bernabéu and he's been rifling in the most goals for Atlético, although
Raúl Garcia, Koke and Arda are all worth a mention too, having notched up nine between
them since Costa scored in that 1-0 victory.
One of
Atlético's greatest strengths is its fortress, where it is still undefeated in
the league this season. Whilst the earlier trip to the Bernabéu showed what the
'Rojiblancos' can do away from home, when playing at home only Sevilla and
Barcelona have managed to escape from the Calderón with a point so far this
season.
