Two finals for three exhausted teams

By on 00:03

Spanish football is getting ready to witness two spectacular finals, with it still being anybody's guess who will claim the Spanish league and the Champions League. Two trophies are up for grabs between three teams that are physically pushing themselves to the limit.

After 37 matchdays, the winners of the Spanish league will be decided with a battle to the death between Barcelona and Atlético. If either side wins they'll lift the trophy, while a draw would suffice for the side from Madrid.

And just one week later will be the climax of the Champions League when Real Madrid and Atlético come together in a game with huge historical importance: 'Los Blancos' are looking for their first European title in 12 years and the 'Rojiblancos' are aiming to be crowned Champions League victors for the first time ever.

This last week has seen various events that have been difficult to explain. All three teams that could mathematically still win the title failed to win their respective games against theoretically weaker sides.

Atlético lost 2-0 away to Levante and drew 1-1 against Málaga. They were one goal away from claiming the league title for the first time since 1996, but let a great opportunity go begging and now need to avoid defeat at the Camp Nou to cling on to top spot.

They will come up against the 'Azulgranas', who incredibly still hold their own destiny in their own hands, despite two draws in their last two games against teams battling to avoid the drop (Getafe and Elche).
