Bernabéu becomes a vault for the day

This particular Clasico will go down in the history books as the one involving the largest security operation ever seen for a game between Spain's arch-rivals. This is on account of the one-off security measures being adopted in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks which took place eight days ago. In an unprecedented deployment, the Spanish State security forces will turn the Santiago Bernabéu into a vault, to which only the 83,000 supporters in possession of a match ticket will be able to gain entry.
The operation will be made up of 1,200 members of the national police force (representing six times the amount usually present at games), 120 officers from the city police (42 more than the number usually deployed for this category of fixture), 1,195 Real Madrid security staff, 80 workers from Madrid's emergency operations agency, and 60 individuals from the Red Cross. These security measures make this Real Madrid-Barcelona clash the sporting event featuring the most extensive security operation since the Olympic Games in Barcelona.
The streets around the Bernabéu will be closed to traffic just under three hours prior to kick-off, and three layers of security forces will be stationed to ensure that only fans with tickets will be able to enter the stadium. In addition, the turnstiles will be open two hours before the game, which is half an hour earlier than usual.
