The trial over the sex-tape blackmail of Mathieu Valbuena moves a step closer to its conclusion this week as the three individuals accused of plotting against the French international appear for questioning. Meanwhile, whilst the Versaille judge continues to gather evidence, Real Madrid's Karim Benzema remains under judicial control.
According to Le Parisien and its sources close to the trial, both the 'Los Blancos' player and his friend, Karim Zenati, are still considered to be involved in the case, despite the telephone tapping and various accounts from those involved in the saga having made "Benzema's involvement with the victim clear".
The fine on-field displays and goals that the 'Los Merengues' number 9 is producing have prompted the French Football Federation to re-consider their decision to exclude the attacker from their squads, particularly with this summer's European Championships in mind. However, until such time as the judge lifts the protective measures handed to Benzema, one of which prevents the former Lyon hitman from establishing contact with Valbuena, he will not be pulling on a 'Les Bleus' shirt.
