The Real Madrid full-back has in no way ruled himself out of Los Blancos' tough Champions League last sixteen first-leg trip to Rome's Olympic Stadium in just six days' time, on 17th February.
The Champions League is calling to Real Madrid and Marcelo, one the club's first-team captains, wants to answer its call despite still recovering from the shoulder injury he picked up against Granada. That injury was confirmed on Tuesday but, just one day later, Marcelo was ready to risk it all to face Roma.
The Brazilian's optimism has spread throughout the first-team dressing room although everyone, starting with the defender and Zinedine Zidane, has one thing clear: that Marcelo will not be risked against Roma unless he can withstand the discomfort and pain that he will inevitably be in without help from painkilling injections.
In any case, despite Marcelo's eagerness to play, the truth of the matter is that time is against him. Ramos, for example, needed 19 days before he was fit to play. However, even though Marcelo's shoulder injury is less severe, it is unlikely he will be back in time for the game at the Olympic Stadium. Despite that, the Brazilian seems ready to at least try. The Champions League is back and Marcelo knows only too well what that means to Real Madrid.
