Piqué: "Maybe if we'd won the Champions League, Pep would've stayed"

Defender hints he knew Guardiola had him spied on

Gerard Piqué has claimed that, had Barcelona won the Champions League last year, Pep Guardiola might have been tempted to stay on as coach. "You're left with the feeling that maybe if we'd beaten Chelsea in the semi-finals and gone on to win the Champions League, we would have convinced him to stay another year. You never know", he told 'Terra'.
The centre-back also discussed the reports leaked by private detective agency Método3, according to which the former Barça boss hired detectives to shadow the defender and keep tabs on his private life. "The truth is that I sensed that something was going on back in 2010, so it's not come as a complete shock now that it's come to light – I knew something was up. It's not nice, but it's water under the bridge: different people run the club now. I'm too excited by what's in store over the next two months to dwell on that stuff", he stated.
Piqué also talked about the return of Tito Vilanova and the role played by his assistant, Jordi Roura, in the coach's absence: "We can't wait [for Tito to come back], although Jordi Roura has done an invaluable job standing in for him", said the defender. Finally, the former Manchester United player looked ahead to the upcoming Champions League quarter-final first leg against PSG, which Swedish striker Ibrahimovic is likely to miss through suspension. "I'd prefer for Zlatan to play", he claimed.
