"The current Board called Guardiola 'Dalai Lama'"

By on 23:25

Following Bayern's 0-7 in the Champions League, Joan Laporta has reappeared. In an interview with German press agency Dpa, the former president didn’t mince his words when referring to Sandro Rosell and his management team: "I'd like them to go".
Last Wednesday Rosell said he didn’t know what Piqué meant when he said decisions had to be made after losing to Bayern. Laporta, however, understands the defender perfectly: "When the players complain, it’s to do with the passivity, with things that haven’t been done, decisions that haven’t been made or haven’t worked. They’ve set out to destroy all our hard work and effort. Deliberately, purely out of revenge, resentment."
The former Barça president also revealed certain comments which he claims the current Board of Directors have made about Guardiola: "They treated him like a prophet, the Messiah, but sarcastically. Look, they used to say, the Dalai Lama has spoken."
According to Laporta, the decision to appoint Vilanova as Guardiola’s successor wasn’t necessarily the right thing to do: "He was appointed as a quick-fix because the idea of finding a successor for Pep made them nervous. They were in a hurry. Tito is a good, knowledgeable manager, a great student of Pep’s, but he needed a period of adjustment to do what he’s doing now."
Laporta added that the club should have hired a manager when Vilanova fell ill again: "To give Tito peace of mind, they should have guaranteed his contract and waited for him to make a full recovery, because it is very difficult to lead Barça in that situation."
