Valdés staying or going causing dilemma at Barcelona

By on 23:10

Until Barcelona finally pin down the league title, no definite decision will be taken, but one of the most controversial matters once it has been achieved, is whether Víctor Valdés stays or goes. At the moment there are two schools of thought within the club about what the decision should be. All looks set for many a heated debate.
In January, Valdés announced in a statement that he was not planning on renewing his contract with Barcelona, but he still has over one year left on his current one, which runs until June 2014. While Vilanova was in New York, club president Rosell said he hoped that when he returned, he would be able to persuade Valdés to stay. At his first press conference, last Friday, Vilanova was quite clear about it: “at the time he made the statement he was quite definite about it, but I do not see that I have the ability to talk him round”, he said. But Tito added something more.
"I have no problem if he wants to continue next season, but now we are playing for high stakes, so I shall speak to him. His conduct is quite impeccable, and that makes me think there would be no problem in him continuing", Vilanova added, stating loud and clear that he wants Valdés to continue. This is also the opinion of sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.
On the board, however, the most widely-held view is that the ideal solution would be to sell Valdés now before he leaves next season, and cash in on him. The obvious question is which of the two views will prevail.
