'Wing' Commander Ronaldo serves the nation

With a header in the 81st minute, Cristiano Ronaldo won the clash of the titans with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and edged Portugal closer to the 2014 World Cup. In just four days time they will face Sweden once again to defend their 1-0 first-leg lead.
A Miguel Veloso cross was met with a diving header from Ronaldo, crushing the Swedish defence who had outplayed their opponents in the first half, but fizzled out in the second half with hardly any sign of Ibrahimovic .
It was Cristiano Ronaldo's 44th goal in 108 international games, just three short of Pauleta's record.
Ronaldo finished off a match which had started slowly and gradually gained momentum. He could have inflated the scoreboard even more with a header which hit the crossbar in the final minutes of the match. Ibrahimovic's apathy hindered a Swedish squad that was more hell-bent on defending than attacking in the second-half.
