Ángel Di
María is still working hard to prove himself. The Argentine, after his
controversial gesture to the crowd at the Bernabéu two weeks ago, has secured
himself a regular spot in Ancelotti's 4-3-3. The Argentine has started the last
three games, all away from Madrid, and has scored two good goals. He is back on
track.
Ancelotti
skilfully put out the fire sparked by 'crotch-gate' in the match against
Celtic. The Argentine player was left on the bench against Osasuna a few days
later at the Bernabéu to protect him from the crowd's anticipated reproach.
Carletto had
already tried Di María out on the left wing in Vallecas, the same position he
plays in Argentina and the only possible variant that allows Ángel and Bale to
line up together. For the Italian, the Argentine is key to his so called
"balance". His defensive weight helps the team protect itself. In
fact, one of his functions is keeping a check on Marcelo's runs, whose chaotic
style is thereby protected with the 'Albiceleste' player's ability to recover
the ball.
The
Argentina international is one of Carletto's most frequently picked players,
having only missed three games. He has played 27 ties, 21 of them as a starter,
in which he has scored eight goals and provided nine assists.
And with Di
María now once again assuming a lead role, any chance of a departure on the
winter transfer market has been virtually ruled out. The situation has been
turned around in just two weeks and the gesture made during the Celta tie has
been superseded by his performances and goals.
