Illarramendi grabbed his first league goal of the season, after 34 minutes, from outside the box after the ball fell into his path from a Madrid corner. Elche had made life difficult for the home side and it wasn't until the 71st minute that Madrid had any breathing space. Gareth Bale possibly scored the goal of the weekend as he sent a left-footed piledriver towards the Elche goal from 25 yards out that went in off the crossbar.
