Varane and Illarra set to start against Elche

By on 18:06

Jesé will once again provide cover for the absent Cristiano Ronaldo after the TAD (the Spanish Sport Ministry’s Administrative Court) ruled that the Portugal International will serve his 3-game ban.
Ancelotti will make a number of changes for this afternoon’s game (16.00 CET), with one eye on Real Madrid’s Champions League clash against Schalke on Wednesday 26 February. Varane will start in central defence to avoid Sergio Ramos picking up a yellow card and being unavailable for the upcoming derby against Atlético Madrid in La Liga. Arbeloa will play at left-back, while Illarramendi is set to line up in midfield. Madrid’s attacking threat will come in the form of Jesé, Bale and Benzema.
Real Madrid XI: Diego López; Carvajal, Varane, Pepe, Arbeloa; Xabi Alonso, Illarramendi, Di María; Bale, Benzema and Jesé.
Elche XI: Manu Herrera; Albácar, Botía, Lombán, Cisma; Rubén Pérez, Javi Márquez; Carles Gil, Manu del Moral, Rivera and Corominas.
