Speaking to reporters at Barcelona's training ground, Roberto insisted that the club hasn't abandoned its previous principles, despite Víctor Valdés and Carles Puyol both leaving and several players joining from elsewhere.
"I don't think that's the case, because Gerard [Deulofeu] and Rafinha have both come back [from their loan spells] and [Jordi] Masip has made the step up. Luis Enrique has a lot of faith in the academy and will use players from the B-team whenever he can. The philosophy is the same: anyone who joins has to give their all to help the club", he argued.
The 22-year-old feels Enrique's appointment offers grounds for encouragement for the youth ranks: "Luis Enrique knows us, which is a plus", the midfielder noted, stressing that he spent two "very good" seasons under the Asturian with Barça's reserves. He went on to state that though he "struggled" to get game time last year under Gerardo 'Tata' Martino, he learnt a lot.
"I don't know whether or not I'd be in the first team under another coach, but I'd like to stay here all my life", Roberto added. He also claimed that he isn't thinking about the possibility of extending his contract right now, but rather is focused on "giving 100%".
