Fourth time lucky?

By on 15:37

Barcelona would have been crowned champions of La Liga without even playing, if Real hadn't beaten Málaga. But it wasn't a case of 'third time lucky' for Tito Vilanova's squad and now their fate lies in the hands of fellow Catalan club and arch-enemy, Espanyol.
Barça could win this Saturday -once again without even playing- if Los Blancos lose against Espanyol in Cornellá. Or, alternatively on Sunday, if they beat Atlético away at the Vicente Calderon.
Barça had their first opportunity in Bilbao. A win, coupled with Real Madrid's defeat in the derby at the Calderón, would have sufficed. But neither one thing nor the other occurred.
Last weekend, the Catalans had the title within their grasp again. All they needed was for Real Madrid to draw or lose against Valladolid, and their own team to land a victory against Betis. The latter did happen, but the former didn't. Mou's squad came up with the goods again.
