Giovani: “We’re keen to re-write history at the Bernabéu”

By on 20:54

All ready for the Bernabéu?
Yes, we’re ready and really fired up for such a huge and important game like this one.

Have you had much luck at Real Madrid’s ground?
I’ve never won there; the best I have done against them was gaining a point at home with Villarreal. Beating Real Madrid at their stadium is very difficult.

...and Villarreal have never won there...
I didn’t know that. But that’s history and it’s in the past. We hope to change that and be the first Villarreal side to win there.
Will it help that Madrid will be without Cristiano?
It’s an important absentee, you can’t deny that but at the same time, they have many great players who have enough quality to stand in for him.

One player who is available to play is Bruno...
He’s a vital player for us and if he’s able to play, he will give us a lot of options to gain something from the game.

How are Villarreal looking going into the match?
The team is in a good moment of form, we’re playing well, we’ve got 40 points and the atmosphere is relaxed. Right now, we feel good; we’re going into the game at a great moment for us”.

What will you need to do to win?
Our finishing has to be clinical, that’s the first thing. After that, we need to be intelligent and not give them too many options to hit us on the break. We can’t leave them any space to exploit us at the back.

Villarreal aren’t known for being proverbial bus parkers...
We’ll be treating this game as any other, playing as we always do. We’ll see what the coach thinks and tells us. We know the risks of pressing high up the pitch but we aren’t a team which sits back and defends. We’re a well-balanced side which attacks well and defends well.
